Hooked

6.2 / 10 | 9h | Canada
2025 | Short | Drama
Hooked is a surreal, darkly comedic short film about female desire, obsession, and the collapse of fantasy into reality. In a remote coastal town, Marina endures long, monotonous shifts at a fish processing plant, numbed by routine and loneliness. Her world changes when she glimpses Archie Payne, a charming local fisherman, featured on a late-night television segment after catching the biggest fish of the day. His effortless charisma awakens in her a yearning she can neither name nor control. Unable to resist her fixation, Marina begins imagining a life with Archie, weaving elaborate fantasies that edge closer to delusion. While flipping channels, she lands on a gaudy TV psychic commercial for "Miss Evangelista," whose prerecorded voice offers mystical services such as casting curses, joining covens, or sealing a deal to marry a demon for a fisherman's heart. As Marina's obsession deepens, her fantasies bleed into her waking life. The boundaries between her mind and the real world erode, transforming longing into addiction and self-destruction. The story builds toward a surreal and unsettling climax, where Marina's desire consumes both herself and the object of her obsession. Hooked is a haunting exploration of female sexuality and the perilous consequences of unrestrained yearning.
