Sarhane was a shy student from a middle-class Tunisian family. Jamal, "El Chino", fled a murder charge in Morocco. All they shared when they met in Madrid in October 2003 was a set of extremist beliefs. Five months later, they were the leading figures in the Jihadist cell responsible for Europe's worst ever terrorist atrocity in which 191 people died and 2,050 were wounded.
