Dottie asks when her parents are arriving over a family meal. Derek very heavy-handedly tries to convince her that her folks are dead. Sarah convinces him to change tack and 'therapeutic fib'. He does so to great effect and Dottie is reassured. Therapeutic Fibbing is technique often recommended by dementia experts. It is the practice of agreeing or saying things that are not true to avoid causing someone distress and to make them feel safe and comforted.
