Like any other married man, Leandro Alcuar longs for a child; unfortunately, his wife Bessie cannot give him one. Supporting the business and living with Bessie is her cousin Ofelia Almazan, who has been raising her daughter on her own since her husband's death; unfortunately Lizzie died of heart failure. Meanwhile, cunning Janet Perez deeply admires Leandro's looks and wealth. Ambitiously wanting his attention, Janet viciously schemes to have his child. When she's about to tell him she's pregnant, she finds out that Bessie has finally become pregnant. Bessie names her child Lizzie in memory of Ofelia's daughter, but this Lizzie dies in an accident. Deciding to go abroad, Janet first leaves her child Lara and a letter in front of Leandro's house. Unfortunately, Ofelia is the first to see Lara and read the letter. Longing for a child, Ofelia decides to keep Lara and lies to Leandro and Bessie about the child's true identity. Years later, Janet, now married to a rich Japanese businessman, returns and tries to reclaim Lara.
